This painting class will explore the process of producing paintings with a key component being the preparation of work through considered planning. Preliminary drawing will be an essential aspect of the course work and will aim to give students the opportunity to plan projects and produce finished work.

This painting course will explore a variety of observational studies such as: still life; figure(portrait and nude); and en plein air. Media used will include: oil and water based paint; drawing media such as charcoal, pencil and pastel; and collage.

This painting course will include instruction in basic colour theory, the principles of colour mixing, and the preparation of a surface on which artwork will be created.

Students will be assigned projects that examine various oil painting techniques such as: under painting; wet on wet; fat on lean; direct painting; scumbling; dry brush; blending; glazing; impasto and painting with a palette knife.

This painting course is suitable for beginners, however it is strongly advised that students have some drawing experience as drawing skills are essential to painting.

This painting course is designed for students who have completed the Beginners Oil Painting course or have either strong drawing skills or have experience in oil painting. This is an ongoing course and caters for students at different levels of competency.

Furthermore, this painting class is open to students of art who want to further develop and augment their existing painting skills.

Open Studio are sessions where students can work on their own individual creative ideas and artworks. In each session the tutor will be present to assist and mentor students in any media they choose. No life models are assigned for this class but the tutor, if required may set a still life.
